Hey all,
It's been a long week, and I've been mostly MIA on social media. I have not a lot to share in terms of shop updates, as a stomach bug hit our household HARD this week. We're on the other side now, but most fishing and product stuff came to a grinding halt.
I've poured a few days into writing Episode 2 of my podcast, and I am thrilled to say that it's almost finalized. I am looking forward to recording it this weekend and editing it in small chunks over the next week or two. I've learned from the last episode's weekend marathon, and I'm excited to bring you a more polished and engaging episode.
Huge shoutouts to my podcasting and media friends for all the pointers and to all the real ones who've listened to episode 1 so far! I'm grateful to be able to share this journey with you. I've wanted to start a podcast for years.
On the merchandise front, the news could be better. Unfortunately, last week's manufacturer and UPF shirt updates haven't come to fruition. Wholesale MOQs for shirts are in the $4-5K range for the initial order, and two lure manufacturers have ghosted me. It's disappointing that the fishing industry doesn't provide much support for businesses that aren't brick-and-mortar. But I am not giving up. I've got some feelers out for illustrators who'd like to help me produce some T-shirts.
On the bright side, soft plastics and jig heads have finally arrived and are about 75% packaged. I've got to assemble some skirted jigs, bundle them up, and put some stickers on them. I'm also considering removing the wholesaler's stickers.
In the interest of full disclosure, I will charge a small markup for breaking down bulk packs, assembling the kits, and selecting products that pair together. That's the reality of doing business and trying to bring in dope, new products. I hope people will understand, and I will offer more discounts along the way. Discounts on other products have been duds, even with social media ads running, so I'm not sure what the right answer is here.
Happy news: The Wachusett Reservoir opens this weekend! I'm not sure I'll make it there yet, but I'm sending positive vibes to all those who do. I'm there with you in spirit. I will discuss this topic in the next podcast episode. Meanwhile, check out episode 1.
