Shop Update: Week of March 25, 2024

Hey all,

It's that time again, and it's been another quiet week.

I'm back to work full-time, so I haven't spent much time exploring dealers since the weekend. I'm waiting on responses from two manufacturers, and I know where I'm likely to source the next stickers and merch. I still need to settle on designs and materials, though I like the idea of making a foil sticker at some point.

As I'm writing this, I'm waiting on Sunday's order of plastics and jigs. I'm going to build 2 kits in a few colors each. I'm starting with pretty basic options. Be on the lookout for the announcement of wave 1 launch on the blog and social media. In case of positive feedback, I have some ideas for wave 2.

In case you missed last week's post, the first episode of The Cottage Chronicles podcast is out now on Spotify. In this episode, I talk about how I learned to fish and how I fell in love with the sport. I share a bit about family and a small peek at where New Dawn Tackle Co. is headed.

The audio quality may not be perfect, but I'm proud of the stories I shared in a 10-minute podcast. If you haven't listened yet, please check it out and let me know what you think! You can leave a review or complete my poll on Spotify.

I have two main goals for my podcast: to have fun and to create a time capsule for my son and me to listen to in the future. I haven't decided on an exact formula for selecting topics or tone yet, so I'm going to experiment with something different in the next episode.

Last year, I read Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac and it blew my mind. Leopold is an amazing storyteller! He's super descriptive, but also really easy to understand. One thing he's really good at is breaking things down into small, easy-to-digest pieces. That's exactly what I want to do with my podcast. I want to have a bunch of essays that all have a common theme, but they won't all be told in a specific order.

I'm hoping to publish another episode in late April. I have a few "essays" in mind for this one. Here are some working titles for the segments I'm thinking about:

  • The Unenthusiastic Angler
  • Penny and Rover
  • Opening Day

I think it's going to be another fun show to produce. I can't wait to share it.

In other news, I'm still creating these terrifying AI-generated images. I can't wait for the weather to warm up and dry out so I can get back on the water.

Until next time, tight lines and happy fishing!

P.S. Happy Easter to those who celebrate!
